In the modern flamenco repertoire, the shawl is as integral to the dance as it is to the costuming.

 

The Mantón can vary greatly in size, fabric quality, embroidery, and fringe details. Offering immense visual appeal, dancers can begin their practice with a smaller shawl called the Mantoncillo. 

 

At Dance Flamenco DC students first learn to dance with the mantoncillo in the advanced beginner level Sevillanas class. Upper body, core, and arm technique is intertwined with the concept of style and grace as we develop the technique and work our way up to the larger mantón
